About

We are a vibrant intellectual community consisting of more than fifty full-time faculty members, accomplished postdoctoral fellows, teaching fellows, visiting faculty, and strong cohorts of graduate and undergraduate students. Renowned for our cutting-edge research and the expansive scope of our expertise our research fields cover six continents, numerous thematic fields, and most of recorded history. The faculty in the history department are committed teachers and student mentors, boasting twenty-one winners of the Quantrell Prize, the University of Chicago's highest honor for teaching. They are also dedicated scholars whose books have won the The Gordon J. Laing Award, granted by the University of Chicago Press for distinguished books, seven times, in addition to a wide range of external awards.
