United States: Conferences
We encourage our students to gain professional experience through conference participation. Conference experience begins on campus; each year there are both smaller and larger conferences relevant to the interests of U.S. history students, which students not only attend but often help organize.
Examples:
The History Department provides airfare support for students who give conference papers; each student is automatically eligible for such support twice in their graduate career. U.S. history students often begin by presenting papers at regional and specialized conferences, before presenting at the A.H.A. or O.A.H. as they near dissertation completion.
