About the Department

SSRBThe Department of History at the University of Chicago is a community of 41 faculty members, graduate students, and undergraduate majors within the university's Social Sciences Division. Our departmental offices are located in Room 330 of the Social Sciences Research Building, 1126 E. 59th Street.

The Department of History at the University of Chicago has a long-standing commitment to interdisciplinary and comparative history, while at the same time providing training in core methodologies, narratives, and sources of premodern, national, and international histories. In preparing their courses of study and research, students at Chicago are encouraged to consult with faculty across the department as well as across the University more generally. Prospective students should also consult the individual faculty pages to gain a full appreciation of the range of topics and options available for study and research.
