Prospective students who are interested in a PhD in History are welcome to visit campus. David Goodwine, our program coordinator, can help arrange meetings with faculty in your areas of interest as well as informal conversations with some of our graduate students. Please give David at least two-weeks notice of your visit.
October and November are the ideal times to visit campus. Summer and December visits can be coordinated, but faculty and current students may not be available for meetings during vacation times. If you wish to attend classes, please be aware of our academic calendar. We regret that we cannot schedule visits January through March when we will be reviewing admissions files.
Please review the faculty pages and let David know which faculty you would like to meet during your visit. Faculty who are on leave might not be available for meetings. You may also wish to schedule a meeting with the graduate student administrator if you have questions about the structure of the program or funding. Please let David know if you’d like to include this meeting.
Applicants who receive offers of admission are invited to visit on History Day, held in March or April (March 9th in 2009). On History Day admitted students have the opportunity to meet with faculty in their field, speak with current students, and tour the campus and library. Invitations to History Day are sent in mid-late February.
