Robert Brenner, professor emeritus of history at UCLA, will lecture on "From Capitalism to Feudalism? Economic Decline, Neoliberal Ascent, and the Rise of Finance" on Friday, March 19, at 3 PM. Sponsored by the Department of History, the lecture will be held in Harper Memorial Library, room 140, 1116 E. 59th Street, Chicago.
Brenner is the director of Center for Social Theory and Comparative History at UCLA and the author of many books on the economy, early modern Europe, social theory, and Marxism. The Boom and the Bubble: The US in the World Economy (Verso, 2002) has been translated into seven languages, and his 1976 article, "Agrarian Class Structure and Economic Development in Pre-Industrial Europe," sparked a major historical debate in the pages of Past & Present on the nature of economic change in Europe.
