Congratulations to James Sparrow on his appointment as the next director of the Jefferson Scholars Foundation’s National Fellowship Program! Based at the University of Virginia, the program awards fellowships to graduate students completing dissertations in United States politics in fields such as history, public policy, and foreign relations.

In an announcement on the Jefferson Scholars Foundation website, Sparrow, who studies modern U.S. politics with a focus on democratic publics, state formation, social movements, and citizenship, said, “The National Fellowship Program has become a model of excellence among national fellowships in my field, and I will do everything I can to ensure that it remains that as we adjust to the new conditions confronting higher education.”

Sparrow will take over as director on July 1, 2021.
