The National Endowment of the Humanities awarded Paul Cheney, professor of European history, a grant to conduct a three-week seminar for college and university faculty this summer. Cheney codirected "Invisible Bonds: the Enlightenment Science of Society from Mandeville to Hegel" with Alexander Schmidt, reader in intellectual history, Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena. The sixteen participants included historians, philosophers, literary and religious scholars, and two History alumnae: E. Randall Kindleberger, AB, and Kate Hamerton, PhD '02.
