Normal registration for the first year is eight graded courses: a two-quarter seminar, a historiography course, and five other courses. These courses are taken for letter grades and must be completed by the end of the spring quarter. Students receive the master's degree upon completing the first-year curriculum.
Students who are recommended for the PhD will be expected to complete another year of graded courses, including another two-quarter seminar. Students may petition to receive credit for previous graduate work.
The 2017–18 graduate curriculum is now available for current graduate students, prospective graduate students, and History Day visitors.
