David Nirenberg, dean of the Division of Social Sciences and Deborah R. and Edgar D. Jannotta Professor of Medieval History, will be inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences on October 8, 2016.  He is joined by four other members of the faculty at the University of Chicago, who were also elected this year.


Founded in 1780, the academy convenes leaders from academia, business, and government to respond to the challenges facing the nation and the world. Current research focuses on higher education, the humanities, and the arts; science and technology policy; global security and energy; and American institutions and the public good.
