Teaching Fellow in the Social Sciences (2026-28)

Eduardo Romero is a historian interested in global capitalism and modern Latin America.

His PhD dissertation examines Brazilian economic policy from the late 1960s until the late 1980s, focusing on foreign debt. In contrast to more quantitative accounts of the foreign debt buildup and the debt crisis, his dissertation focuses on issues of communication and narrative. It tracks the shifting arguments and tactics employed by Brazilian authorities to justify their reliance on foreign debt, from the time of the Brazilian economic “miracle” to the Brazilian redemocratization and the 1987 moratorium, delving into how issues of democracy and authoritarianism also influenced economic policy communication.

Eduardo received his PhD in History from the University of Chicago, his MPhil in Economic and Social History from the University of Cambridge, UK, and his BA in History from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp), Brazil.
